Frequently Asked Questions

What is VOM?

The root of the work comes from a very powerful, effective, and comprehensive healing technology called VOM, which precisely locates areas of your animal's nervous and muscle systems that have fallen out of proper communication or balance with the rest of the body and the brain. VOM is then used to re-establish communication and balance in these areas thus reducing pain AND inducing healing.

Dr. Savko first took the VOM coursework in 2002 directly with technique originator Dr. Bill Inman DVM, and then worked closely with a local veterinarian for over a year to be eligible to take the certification test which he passed to become a fully certified VOM practitioner in 2006.
Is Dr. Savko a veterinarian?

NO, Dr. Savko is not a veterinarian nor does he practice veterinary medicine.  He is: a board certified doctor of chiropractic (DC), certified in the VOM healing technologies (CVCP), Reiki attuned, a Certified ThetaHealer®, and well trained in many other holistic modalities including but not limited to: nutrition, muscle work, energy medicine, essential oils, chakra balancing, intuitive healing, bodywork, and acupressure/acupuncture concepts. Currently Dr. Savko consults in house, under the direct supervision of licensed veterinarians with several prestigious veterinary hospitals across the region.

Why is the work so successful?

Because it can find causes and not just effects. With or without symptoms, it identifies problem areas that often times can’t be seen with the eyes or felt with the hands.  The work locates and reduces or removes involuntary and pathologic reflexes called “reads” that are found only in animals when there is blockage, imbalance or miscommunication between the brain and the body.   When the “reads” are found, they indicate either neurologic static or muscle imbalance. When these reflexes are removed or reduced, patients usually improve!
Why do you use instruments instead of your hands?

Because our hands are too slow. The devices offer more precision and can work many times faster than the animal’s body can resist, therefore the patient should always be properly and safely evaluated every visit, in any position, attitude or mood.

What will happen to my animal during the visit?

Typically there are three gentle yet comprehensive whole body phases: The first phase works with the nerves and the joints, and the second phase works with the nerves and the muscles.  During the third phase, magnetic, far infra red, and negative ion spheres are used to help the patient heal from the inside out, like a laser but even easier, and quicker!  This phase is a nice and friendly way to end the visit.  Magnetics are known to increase blood flow, as well as bring harmony to the cells of the body.  Through each phase meridian points (like with acupuncture) are stimulated, muscles are relaxed, joints are mobilized, blood flow and neurologic communication is improved and so much more!  Dr. Savko is also experienced with several energy healing techniques such as reiki and Theta Healing, these energetic modalities are put into each and every visit from start to finish so that we all can be our best!

All of this is accomplished in a very safe and gentle manner which usually allows for more effective results in a shorter period of time than many other techniques alone.
Can this approach harm my animal?

Absolutely not.  The beauty of the work is that it provides the exact amount of force to reduce nerve, joint or muscle stress without having to jerk, twist, or yank on the body.  As with any other “bodywork” sometimes there may be a healing reaction, like getting sore after a massage or exercise, which is usually mild and passes quickly.

Can you do this work on other animals?

Yes!  Dr. Savko has worked on rabbits, hens, ducks, lizards, pigs, cows, birds, bulls, even snakes, but especially horses. Horses really tend to soak this work up and respond very quickly! No animal is too big or small for these amazing healing technologies!

What problems can you work on?

The better question is, what can’t we work on? The answer is: not much. Severe traumas need emergency services, but once cleared we can work around the areas until they are healed enough to be worked on directly. Bone tumors cannot directly be worked on but they can be worked around if we think it will help quality of life.  Open wounds, surgical incisions etc. need to heal first.  Pre and post surgical cases respond great, and are usually up and about quicker than without the work!  The full scope of this technology has yet to be realized.
Fun facts:

VOM was originated by a world renowned veterinarian through 10+ years of analysis on over 30,000 large and small animals.  The research showed that animals lived 50% longer and healthier lives with the work vs. without.  Wouldn’t you like your loved one to live a 50% longer healthier life?

Disclaimer:
Dr. Savko is not a veterinarian nor does he practice veterinary medicine.  He has his doctorate in chiropractic (DC), is certified in the VOM healing technologies (CVCP), is Reiki attuned, holds multiple certifications as a ThetaHealer, and is well trained in many other holistic modalities including but not limited to, nutrition, muscle work, energy medicine, bodywork, and acupressure/acupuncture concepts. Currently Dr. Savko consults in house, under the direct supervision of licensed veterinarians with several local veterinary hospitals, he also receives referrals from many other veterinarians all across the Pittsburgh area and beyond.

As with all clinical procedures, these techniques are being applied without guarantee of cure or promise of relief. In clinical practice, 7-9% of cases do not respond. The work is inherently non-invasive and safe.  To our knowledge, to date no animal has been injured with these methods. We  encourage all clients to look into other regimens such as medicine and surgery or to seek other professional opinions regarding the condition or treatment of their companion animal(s).
